The East of England Co-op, in partnership with Community Action Suffolk, is hosting a Big Co-op Clean in Ipswich and they would like you to join them.
From 10am to 1pm on Wednesday 24 June, volunteers from the East of England Co-op and local volunteers facilitated and supported by Community Action Suffolk will be grabbing their litter pickers and bin bags and heading to Whitehouse and Castle Hill to give the area a summer spruce up.
The Big Co-op Clean is a national campaign in celebration of Co-operative’s Fortnight (20 June – 4 July), with thousands of co-op members demonstrating the power of working together in clean-up events up and down the country.
Minnie Moll, Executive Officer – Membership, Marketing and Media at the East of England Co-op, said: “This is a great opportunity to put co-operative working into action and achieve something together.
“Colleagues from across the East of England Co-op have volunteered to join the Big Co-op Clean and whether you can spare 10 minutes or the full three hours, we look forward to welcoming our members, customers and people from the local area in joining us too.”
Andrew Wilesmith, Senior Development Officer – Localities at Community Action Suffolk, said; “Community Action Suffolk are please to support this initiative. It’s all about the power of volunteers and people coming together to support their communities. It’s a chance to be involved with like minded people, get out into the fresh air and get some exercise and support your local community. It’s things like this that make our society a better place!”
The East of England Co-op is supplying the litter pickers and bin bags – plus they’ll be plenty of Co-op Cuppas on tap to quench the thirst of volunteers.
If you’re unable to join the Big Co-op Clean on the 24 June, there are still lots of ways you can get involved. You could organise your own Big Clean in your community, set aside some time to give your own home or garden a good clean or simply pick a cupboard or two to tackle.
If you find you have unwanted food items, pop down to your local East of England Co-op where you can donate them to the local food bank.
If you, your friends or colleagues would like to join the East of England’s Big Co-op Clean, email [email protected] to let the team know you’ll be joining them. The Big Co-op Clean will start at Castle Hill Community Centre, Ipswich.
