Small grants available for voluntary and community groups in Haverhill

Applications are now open for constituted voluntary and community groups in Haverhill South to apply for grants of up to £1,000.

Local groups are invited to apply for the small pots of funding to make their community an even better place to live.

The funding is being awarded by Haverhill South People’s Forum, which was formed by residents, with support from Community Action Suffolk.

The Forum was set up as part of the Local Conversation in Haverhill South – a People’s Health Trust initiative which involves supporting residents to develop a shared vision for their community and take local action on issues that matter to them.

At the start of the Local Conversation in Haverhill South, residents said that health and wellbeing, children, young people and families, and support to local organisations working in the community were some of the most important priorities in the neighborhood.

David Smith, Haverhill South People’s Forum Chairman, said: “The Forum aims to develop a sustainable and supportive community. We are pleased to offer a second round of small grants funding which benefit our local community and we are actively looking for new projects to support.”

The previous round of funding benefited over 1,000 local residents including signposting for young people suffering from anxiety or depression, outdoor learning, Haverhill South Fruit Bank, Haverhill Dementia Café and a support group for mums.

Local organisation Soup-A-Lunch, a lunch and social group for people over 60, also received funding. Joan Key, the project’s coordinator, said: “The Forum’s small grants funding was vital to us. It means we can support our members throughout the year and we can not only provide hot meals in the colder months for local residents, but also a safe, social place for people to get together and have a chat.”

Applicants can request for up to £1,000 from a total fund of £15,000. The deadline for applications is midday on Friday, 15 September 2017.
