I’m now two months in post as CAS Good Neighbour Scheme Development Officer! I have really enjoyed meeting my colleagues at CAS and also travelling across Suffolk meeting the Good Neighbour Schemes.
The volunteers that run the schemes are our unsung heroes; their dedication to ensuring that everyone in their community has somebody to call upon is inspiring. While all schemes are different they all have the common theme of kindness and community.
I’m happy to report that some schemes have recently joined our network – Isolation Busters in Halesworth, Hour Community Framlingham and Hospice Neighbours for St Nicholas Hospice. I am working with new communities and hope to bring good news about schemes for Leiston and Acton shortly. I have also been spending time meeting organisations that link with Good Neighbour Schemes and I’m encouraged by the support and respect that professionals have for them.
The first Good Neighbour Schemes newsletter went out in January and I will continue these quarterly. I welcome contributed articles, so let me know if there is something you’d like included. To receive these newsletters, simply join as a CAS member here (it’s free!) and tick the Good Neighbour Schemes box on the form.
I have taken to Twitter to raise the profile for GNS so please follow me: @Sally_GNS. You can then find out more about what I am up to but also to help me spread the understanding of Good Neighbour Schemes across Suffolk.
Please continue to talk to me about opportunities and help me raise the profile of Good Neighbour Schemes as it’s important to me that more people know about them and their social impact celebrated.
