Having completed a degree in Chemical Engineering Aaron struggled to find work with the social and environmental conscious he had developed through his studies and own research. After a year of part time jobs Aaron decided to further his education and complete a Masters in Sustainable Energy Engineering at the University of Nottingham. This cemented his understanding, awareness of the scale of the problem, but also how we can do something about it.
Following completion Aaron was lucky enough to start a job straight away at Essex County Council as a Low Carbon Business Officer in what then was called ‘Waste and Environment’. On behalf of ECC he managed the Low Carbon Across the South East EU grant funding programme for SMEs to install energy efficiency measures, as well as support the low carbon sector to grow. 4 years later (and he’s still here), the function is now called ‘Environment & Climate Action’ which shows how the organisation has changed as these challenges are brought into focus and up the agenda.
Aaron’s role is much wider now, accessing and delivering other EU funded projects, supporting the community energy sector, attracting funding for domestic energy retrofit and fuel poverty alleviation, supporting the work of the climate commission to reach their aspirations of net zero green house gas emissions in Essex (and much more).
