Suffolk Wheels 2 Work, run by Community Action Suffolk, loans Honda Vision 50cc scooters to anyone aged 16+ living or working in Suffolk Coastal to enable them to access employment, education or training if they have transport issues.
Here’s Tim’s story.
Tim recently returned to the UK from overseas. “When I came back to live in Wickham Market I was unemployed, and not entitled to benefits for 3 months, I did not have bus pass and also couldn’t access very limited public transport.” Suffolk Wheels 2 Work helped him find his feet by loaning him a Honda Vision scooter to help solve his transport problems.
Tim says “I have been able to apply for, and been offered 3 jobs; in Field sales, Care and Retail in the local area, all of which required having my own transport. I am now working after 6 weeks back and would not have been able to access ANY of the above jobs without this scheme.
Not only has it helped Tim to get a job, but having a scooter has helped him in his personal life as well, “My only day off now is Sunday, when there is no bus service from Wickham Market, however I can now use the Scooter and visit my 97 year old mother in her care home in Kesgrave.”
When asked how Suffolk Wheels 2 Work has helped him, Tim explained, “I completed my Compulsory Basic Training and now have safe, flexible, reliable, economical and fun transport readily available. It is an excellent scheme, professionally managed and thoroughly recommended.”
Wheels 2 Work provides each person with Compulsory Basic Training (CBT), and Advanced Scooter Safety Training (AST) together with a Safety Helmet, Armoured Jacket, Gloves and a Security Lock. In return each rider will pay a weekly loan fee to Suffolk Wheels 2 Work which covers the insurance, road tax, servicing, emergency breakdown cover and ongoing Suffolk Wheels 2 Work support.
