It was Community Centre Week 2016 recently (19 to 25 July) and Wickhambrook Memorial Social Centre got in touch to share how Community Action Suffolk has supported them.
“The Wickhambrook Memorial Social Centre, the Village Hall, has been trying to raise funds to completely refurbish the Hall kitchen for over five years. The kitchen was last done in the early 1970s. The hall was built in 1947 so we knew it would require a large amount of money to achieve this dream. The whole kitchen had to be removed and much work required to comply with modern standards.
Community Action Suffolk were among those who helped us by pointing us in the right direction. Their Village Hall publications and information sheets gave us an awareness of the rules and regulations pertaining to village halls. It gave us lists of possible funders, regularly kept in touch to ask how things were progressing. I was, at last, able to tell Jon at CAS that the work had started on 11 July 2016. The village have been waiting for this for many years and now thanks to all those who helped us we will finally have our kitchen. Work is going well and it proves with help, funding and advice, community buildings can be maintained.”
