Community Action Suffolk is delighted to share that we have been awarded a ‘Dementia Friendly Communities’ grant from Suffolk Community Foundation.
The grant will be used to provide 15 sessions across the Suffolk County so that Good Neighbour Scheme (GNS) volunteers can attend a session near to them. Each session will be specifically for GNS volunteers so they can discuss together how they can better support those living with Dementia and their carers. It will provide them with the opportunity to reflect on their service and encourage more people in their community that are living with dementia to benefit from their local Good Neighbour Scheme.
This Dementia Project will build on the schemes that already have benefited from Dementia Friends training and are developing their own projects to support and engage with those living in their community with Dementia.
Each Good Neighbour Scheme that attends the sessions will be provided with a resource pack full of local and national information that will support them in their volunteering. We hope to see Suffolk Good neighbour Schemes feeling more confident in supporting those living with Dementia and be able to identify if there are services, buildings or environments in their community that may not be Dementia Friendly.
Suffolk Good Neighbour Schemes will hear more details about this from Sally Connick, Good Neighbour Scheme Development Officer at Community Action Suffolk, including details of dates, venues and how to book in the near future.
