First Light is launching a new, exciting project for young musicians living in and around Lowestoft. ‘Spin Back’ is a series of free workshops and events aimed at shining a light on some of the incredible young talent in and around the town.
Participants between the ages of 13 and 19 will receive mentoring and coaching from top singer-songwriters, vocal coaches, producers and DJs and will give the aspiring musicians the opportunity to link to the planned Young Performers Stage at First Light Festival and First Light Sessions at the Seagull Theatre in 2021.
The four online workshops will run on the 21st, 28th November, 5th December and 12th December 2020, covering songwriting, music tech, performance and vocal skills and DJing. All the workshops will start at 1100 hours and last 90 minutes apart from the DJing one which will last 45 minutes. They will then be available afterwards to watch on the First Light website.
Genevieve Christie, First Light director said: “We know that there is so much creative talent in Lowestoft and very much hope that as many young people as possible will take part in our Spin Back sessions. All abilities and experiences are welcome. Spaces are limited so early application is encouraged.”
Helen Hayes, music co-ordinator for First Light said “This is a fantastic opportunity for local young people to learn about different elements of the professional music world and to gain some hands-on experience with industry professionals. We are also really excited that this could lead to us showcasing local talent on the Young Performers Stage at First Light.”
