Free support for Felixstowe’s voluntary and community organisations

felixstowe port

If you are involved with a voluntary organisation in Felixstowe, you will soon be able to benefit from free one-to-one appointments with Community Action Suffolk (CAS) to explore funding opportunities, to find volunteers or simply to receive some general support.

Claire Taylor-Haigh, CAS’s Community Field Officer for Suffolk Coastal and Waveney will be holding surgeries at Felixstowe Library each month, beginning on 6 April 2016. Claire said:

“CAS has recently been involved with Felixstowe Forward, and has always recognised that there is a lot of great community work happening in the town. We want to meet as many local community groups as possible, to share our knowledge and resources to support Felixstowe’s collective approach to tackling the town’s key challenges and opportunities.”

Claire will help support existing organisations, but is also happy to meet any individuals who have an idea or are not sure where to start with setting up a group.

“Whether groups have been around for years, or are still just at the idea stage, we work with anyone who is looking to improve the lives of those in their community. Following our appointment, we will draw up an action plan for you and provide on-going support if needed. We can also introduce you to other local organisations, even those elsewhere in the county, who share a similar vision to you.”

Helen Greengrass, Felixstowe Change Director at Suffolk Coastal District Council, and trustee of Community Action Suffolk, said:

“I’m delighted that CAS will be making regular visits to Felixstowe. Claire facilitated one of the workshops at last year’s ‘Felixstowe Forward – Taking the Town Forward’ meeting, where groups told us that there was a desire for support and learning. We can now offer this to our community and look forward to the positive impact CAS will make.”

Claire will be in Felixstowe Library on 6 April, 4 May, 1 June 2016, with more dates to come if there is the demand. To book an appointment (either 30 minutes or 1 hour), please contact Claire Taylor-Haigh on [email protected]. Booking is essential, as places are limited.
