Community Action Suffolk is welcoming the arrival of Spring by celebrating volunteering.
Over this first week of Spring we will be publishing stories, tips and information on how YOU can get involved with volunteering, why it’s such an amazing thing to do and how we can help you find the perfect volunteering opportunity.
For our final Spring Into Volunteering article, we wanted to bring you a real feel-good story, something which shows the positive impact of volunteering.
Following on from our articles about why volunteering is a positive experience, the importance of volunteers to Suffolk and the different ways to find the best opportunity for you, here’s an example of someone we have supported and who has developed in himself with great success:
A young male volunteer from the Ipswich area decided to take part in the Young InfoLink Volunteers project via a referral from his social worker.
He has spent the last two years rarely leaving his house and avoiding interaction with others due anxiety surrounding his social and learning disabilities.
He wanted to take part in an activity which would encourage him to be more involved with the community and felt the Young InfoLink project would be perfect due to his interest in computers. We started meeting every two weeks and then this became a weekly volunteering role.
From his time as a volunteer, he gained enough confidence to start looking for full-time employment. He now works in retail while continuing to volunteer for the Young InfoLink Volunteers Project.
Community Action Suffolk can help you find the perfect volunteering opportunity, whether you’ve just a couple of hours to give, or you would like to commit to something longer. Visit our volunteering pages to find out more, or contact [email protected]
