Suffolk Coastal communities urged to apply for funding

Do you need help with funding for a new community project? Suffolk Coastal District Council is pleased to announce that the second round of the Capital and Revenue Grants programme for 2015/16 is now open and is inviting organisations to apply. 

The Council supported 16 projects in round 1 of the grant programme with a combined grant award of just under £70,000. In round 2 there is over £44,000 remaining to invest in capital type projects and just under £40,000 available to support revenue based projects. Groups will be notified of the grant decisions in early February 2016.

The Capital and Revenue Grant Programmes can be used to fund new community projects or progress community activity or that help fund new community capital projects that provide additional and improved facilities which contribute towards Suffolk Coastal District Councils key priorities, please check the grant criteria before applying. Round 2 will close for application on Friday 4 December.

Under the Capital Grant Programme you can apply for 30 per cent of the overall project up to £10,000, if your overall cost of the project is £15,000 you can apply for a Capital Grant of £4,500.  Under the Revenue Grant Programme you can apply for 100 per cent of the project costs up to £5,000.

In partnership with Community Action Suffolk we are also holding an application workshop at Melton Hill on Tuesday 17 November from 2pm until 4pm. Our Funding Officer will go through any application questions, explain the application process and provide guidance about what decision makers are looking for in a successful project If you would like to attend please book a place by Thursday 12 November, by emailing: [email protected] or call 01394 444722.

Cllr TJ Haworth-Culf, Cabinet Member for Customers, Communities and Leisure, said: “We have had a really positive response from community groups in the first stage of our grant programme and are now encouraging local groups to take advantage of the remaining £84,000 to invest in their project.

“This funding is part of our Enabling Communities agenda which enables local groups to take positive action to improve their communities.

“If you are thinking of applying for funding, please come along to the workshop in November. Our Funding Officer will be able to help you with any queries you have and be able to advise you what funding decision makers will be looking for in a good application.”
