Exciting times with new schemes launching in Suffolk! Acton Good Neighbour Scheme launched on Sunday 24th March with a tea party for their village, they have worked really hard to set up their scheme and continue to do so in memory of the original Chairperson for the scheme Tony Dyer who sadly passed away suddenly. I know Tony will be immensely proud of how the committee have continued with scheme and will be bringing acts of kindess to Acton village.
Hot on the heels of Acton are Rendlesham and also Snape, both are busy recruiting their volunteers and are looking to launch in April/May time. In the pipeline we have a small group in Hadleigh who are currently surveying to see if there is local support and need for a Good Neighbour Scheme. This community being a town of 10,000 is proving to bring additional challenges. If you have any contacts with Hadleigh and can help with getting the survey out then please let me know!
As always, I am happy to hear from Suffolk communities who would like to consider a scheme. Good Neighbour Schemes are really are something quite special, over 90% of volunteers say that they see an improvement in their wellbeing and 98% saying that their Good Neighbour Scheme helps reduce loneliness and isolation in their community.
“Our Good Neighbour Scheme is a lifeline for many older people in the village and we get positive feedback all the time. People say they don’t know how they would have coped without us”
