Community Field Officers are often asked about this and it can take a while for new organisations to fully understand exactly what structure they want/need to be.
We would say “please don’t worry too much in the early days”. The main thing to do is to ensure your service is actually needed in the areas you want to work and that there isn’t another service already doing the work.
Ensure that you have the right documents in place (we can help you gather these) and that all your Trustees fully understand what your mission is and that everyone involved is singing from the same hymn sheet.
We can all get carried away with the set up and want to shout out about what we are going to do, but if you don’t have the right foundations in place from the beginning it can only ever lead to problems further down the line.
We would suggest you look through the How to register a charity information on the gov.uk website to begin to fully understand the procedures required to run a happy healthy organisation.
But please remember there is a CAS Community Field Officer here to help.
